Suzie’s studies at Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts started her on a journey of painting and applied arts that culminated in her time at the firm of Terry Hunziker. She believes that interior design should be a pleasure to experience—and create. Youngest of six, and “glue” of the team, close collaboration and communication are her hallmarks, whether she’s overseeing team structure, creating material palettes or making style selections. She finds inspiration for future designs in nature, road trips and travels with her husband to visit the zen gardens and vinyl bars of Japan.

David authors the creative vision for the studio with an intuitive feel for big pictures and broad concepts. Architecture has been a lifelong passion—he began designing homes for family and friends when he was just 5 years old. (Most of this early work remains unbuilt.) After receiving his Architecture degree from Parsons School of Design, David worked extensively with famed designer Terry Hunziker. Today, he continues the heritage of high-end Pacific Northwest interiors in partnership with sisters, Suzie and Rachel, and with the assistance of his Puggle, Roger, the official office dog.

Leading business operations for Lucas, Rachel deftly handles the financial and logistical side of studio management. Nothing makes her happier than when her books are balanced to the penny. As a graduate and former adjunct professor at Parsons School of Design, her professional experience includes hands-on creative development, project management and sales in her native city, New York. Rachel’s a mom of two—Olivia and Rocco—and if you email her in August, she’ll likely be responding from the sunny hills of Basilicata, Italy, on her family’s annual visit to her husband’s childhood home.

Well-versed in all aspects of the creative industry, Melanie joined Lucas after earning degrees from Boston and Bellevue Colleges in communication, photography and interior design. A 2018 recipient of the CIDA Award for Excellence, Melanie’s talents enhance the studio on every level, whether she’s researching products and materials, or putting together celebrations that foster a spirit of team community and connection. An Ohio native, Italy is her favorite place in the world, which makes sense—it’s the perfect synthesis of history, art, pasta, wine and kind people.

Brian earned his Bachelors of Interior Design, magna cum laude, from Bellevue College, where he was awarded in the 2014 Architectural Foundation Model Exhibit. Brian’s creativity and divergence inspire us every day at the studio. He does the same for future designers as an instructor of bachelor-level courses at his alma mater. For Brian, visual inspiration is everything—whether he’s making 3D models and renderings for the team, or finding the perfect new additions to his personal collection of work from local and international up-and-coming artists.

Deeply rooted in Seattle’s creative community, Laural began her career at the age of 14 as a materials library intern for NBBJ, and went on to earn her associate and bachelor degrees in interior design from Bellevue College. She’s worked with a prestigious roster of design professionals, and brings her rare combination of reliability and humor to everything she does—from research and purchasing to design presentations. But don’t let her rock-solid dependability and easy-going attitude distract you from the fact that she’s also a total 70’s glam-rock queen.
